How to do a novena

How to Make a Novena ?

Decide in whose honor you will make the novena. Traditionally, Catholics invoke the patron saint of a particular condition, such as St Peregrine for cancer sufferers, St.

Anthony for lost objects, St Anne for infertile couples, St. Jude for impossible situations and St.

Monica for a family member or friend who has fallen away from the Catholic faith You will find a complete list of patron saints at saints.sqpn.com.

You can find novena prayers online, or you can go to a Catholic gift and supply shop, where you will find a wide selection of novena booklets.

Alternatively, you can choose one of your favorite prayers, such as the rosary or the Litany of St. Joseph, and pray each day of the novena.

You’ll want to be in a state of grace when you begin your novena, so prepare by going to confession, then to Mass and Communion.

Then set aside a certain time of the day when you will pray the novena prayers You can pray in a church or a shrine, in your home, on a bus or a train as you commute to work Where you pray is not important as long as it is a place where you can be quiet and concentrate.

Learn how to say the Rosary. The website presents you two forms of the Rosary.

There is the long forms that includes suggested readings and ends with the Litanies for the
Virgin Mary, to be said during the Rosary The other is the shorter form without thereadings and the Litanies.

Be aware that some uneducated persons think about Novenas in a superstitious manner.

Any Novena instructions that include words such as, “say this prayer for 9 consecutive days and your wish will be granted to you,” or that describe the Novena as “never fail” in some sense that would lead one to believe that we have God at our beck and call rather than our being His humble servants well, while the prayers themselves might (or might not) be OK, such instructions should be absolutely rejected.

A Catholic novena is a series of specific prayers that are said for a special request, intention, or grace.

Most novenas are said every day for nine days (the word “novena” is based on the Latin word for “nine”) Novenas are typically quite beautiful and take only a few minutes to recite To learn how to pray a novena, read on!

How To Speak with A New York Accent?

how to speak with a new york accent?

Understand the pronounciation of certain words In a New York accent, the “r” at the end of a word is almost never pronounced.

The “g” at the end of a word isn’t pronounced either So “going” is pronounced “goin’” and “here” sounds like “hea”.

The “th” sound sounds something between “d” and “th”, but if you’re unsure, speak with the “d” sound.

Know that many of the words that have the “o” sound (like in coffee, dog, talk) are pronounced with an “aw” sound, so the word dog, for example, would sound like “dawg”, as well as “coffee” The “aw” sound tends to replace the “o” in all words spoken with a thick New York accent.

Know that the traditional New York accent is like a strong and rough, often with a deep sounding voice Words are spoken kind of in a relaxed way.

Since New York was at one point very Italian, Staten Island and Brooklyn in particular people of Italian descent that live in the areas tend to have a little bit of Italian accent mixed in Familiarity with an Italian accent may make the process easier for you.

Have an attitude Speaking like a New Yorker is less about what you say,and more about how you say it New Yorkers are known for being direct, opinionated and confident. They are also known for talking a lot, and talking loudly.

Look to American television and popular movies to listen to this accent The Sopranos series, and any gangster movies, such as The Godfather, are filled with the NY lingo.

The New York Dialect is the variety of the English language spoken by most European Americans in New York City and much of its metropolitan area including Westchester and Rockland counties, the western half of Long Island, and a few cities in northeastern New Jersey.

It is often considered to be one of the most recognizable accents within American English (Newman 2005).

It’s a cool sounding dialect, but its considered by many Americans to be the ugliest, most annoying, and most distinctive accent People in New York who are upper class have a much less distinct accent.

image of Social Media For Genealogists And Family History

The BYU Family History Library held a free course on social networking for genealogists. I’ve had trouble getting motivated to do family history and this seemed like a great way to merge something I already love (social media) with something I’m trying to love (genealogy). The course advertised using blogs, Facebook and Twitter so I assumed it would be really engaging material.
So much for assumptions.

photo of facebook-profile

Fortunately, I have learned to use Facebook’s filtering features.  Before, I restricted most of my contacts on Facebook to family and personal friends  This was becoming harder to do, however My clients want to connect with me and I want to connect with them People who I am in organizations with want to connect with me But they don’t necessarily want to know details of my personal life or watch my video blog or see a photo album of my Halloween decorations Some people are better than others, maybe, at keeping that part of themselves private  But I am very open about my thoughts and life experiences I have been that way since I was a very small child I like to share them.

A couple of years ago, I was so concerned about how much I tend to share online that I actually unfriended most of my professional contacts on Facebook I did not want to make a bad impression on them.  I felt bad about it at the time, but I also needed Facebook to communicate with my buddies and family Facebook had become an important social outlet for me So I let those connections go, but I always felt like it made me seem like an unfriendly type, and I worried that I hurt feelings.

How to do family therapy

who are Family Therapists?

A Family Therapist is someone who has a masters or doctoral degree and has been trained to work with individuals, couples, and families (which makes the title of “Family Therapist” a bit of a misnomer) Yet there are a variety of ways for a therapist to work with family relationships, even with only one person in the room Thus, these kinds of therapists could equally be called “relational” or “systemic” thinkers.

Family Therapists are trained to handle a wide variety of life’s difficulties: anger, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, marriage and divorce, step-families, addictions and substance abuse, eating disorders, and more.

However, not all therapists are trained to do family therapy. They may be comfortable working with many members of a family in one room but this does not necessarily mean that they are doing family therapy.

Family therapy is actually a particular way of looking at how people interact with one another it’s a sort of lens that focuses and interprets what we see Therapists trained in cognitive behavioral therapy or psychodynamic therapy, for example, will each use their own lens to determine what they see Thus three different therapists from three different backgrounds could be looking at the same family and see totally different issues.

so; How to Conduct a Family Therapy Session ?

Ask the family member who initiated the family session why he feels the family needs the therapy This will give you his perspective on the situation and on what is happening to the family.

Find out which family members are involved, and invite them to the sessions Let each family member know that the therapy will not be effective if anyone misses a session It is best to reschedule if one family member cannot make it to a session.

Conduct an individual and private session with each family member before commencing the family session.

Ask all family members why they think they need a family session. Inquire if they have any issues with the family or any individual members of the family.

Take notes on each session Make sure you write down each family member’s thoughts and concerns for future reference.

Recommend individual counseling for those members who have problems stemming from trauma or childhood problems They will continue to bring their issues to the family dynamic, so it is critical to resolve their issues to help the family unite.

image of a Family Therapy

Family communication is an evolving and complicated issue for most families Sometimes a family therapy session is the only place where each family member can have a voice As children grow and marriages evolve, the lack of communication within a family may cause issues, anger and sadness in some family members.

Family therapy sessions help with issues like divorce, financial problems, grief, depression, stress and substance abuse As a counselor, you will need to have all voices heard to find out what issues or problems each of the family members bring to the family dynamic.

picture of a Family Therapy

Family therapy has been used effectively in the full range of human dilemmas; there is no category of relationship or psychological problem that has not been addressed with this approach [citation needed] The conceptual frameworks developed by family therapists, especially those of family systems theorists, have been applied to a wide range of human behavior, including organizational dynamics and the study of greatness.

How to do family tree

How to Make a Family Tree Diagram ?

Gather as much information as possible about your family and its history You’ll want not only information like name and age, but also marriage and adoption history Depending on the depth of your graph, you may want to sensitively approach the question of stillbirths or miscarriages You may want to collect medical information–genetic information, in particular.

Draw the basic outline of your tree starting from yourself or the family members you know best and working your way out To start, female family members are designated with a circle, and male family members with a square Individuals of unknown sex fetuses in the first few trimesters, for example can be represented with with a diamond Inside or immediately underneath these figures, include both the name and age of the person represented.

Denote marriages by a horizontal line connecting two people, although common law marriages and cohabitation can be indicated with two simultaneously horizontal lines Separations can be indicated with a single slash through that line, and divorces with two slashes In the case of divorce and remarriage, the slashed line remains, and a fresh horizontal line is created Deaths are represented with an “X” or a slash through the symbol itself.

Represent offspring from marriage relationships with a vertical line, descending from the marriage line and arcing out to all the applicable children Twins can be represented with an inverted “V,” descending from the offspring line. If so desired, miscarriages can be represented by a small, filled in circle; stillbirths or deaths can be represented by a small, slashed circle or square. Adoptions, meanwhile, can be designated with brackets dashed brackets for children adopted into the family, and whole brackets for children adopted out.

Include, if desired, genetic information Many family trees are used to chart the flow of genetic traits through the family, for both education and potential prevention In this case, individuals affected with a certain genetic trait have their circle or square filled in completely. Carriers for the traits are half filled, and carriers for linked traits are designated with a small black dot in the center of their figure Include information for all other illnesses or defects: birth defects, cancer, mental disorders, etc.

A family tree, or pedigree chart, is a chart representing family relationships in a conventional tree structure The more detailed family trees used in medicine, genealogy, and social work are known as genograms.

image of family tree

Creating a family tree can either be a wonderful exercise to learn about your family history, or an essential task to gather information about a history of illness This task can get complicated at times, but there are standardized ways of representing your family’s history that can immensely help to keep the mass of information in order.

photo of family tree

This tree is courtesy of tribalpages.com This type of tree focuses on family pictures This is an especially good type of layout if you don’t have many family members or if you do not have much information on your family history.

Hopefully you’ve found this helpful If not, try visiting a site like Rootsweb or doing a google search on geneology charts, or family history charts. Best of luck with your project!
